| Many crimes may look motivated by hate. Proving it can be a different story. "It must be done quickly, because the likely witnesses to be able to prove up the hate motivation are the friends and family," said LaBahn. LaBahn cautioned that just because an investigation is taking a long time without hate-crime charges being filed doesn't mean prosecutors are dragging their feet.
